Hotels, resorts to pay musical copyright fees

Hotels and resorts which are members of the Viet Nam Association of Foreign-Invested Enterprises will now pay copyright fee for songs and musical pieces they use in line with a recent contract.

The contract, which was signed by the association and the Viet Nam Centre for the Protection of Musical Copyright in Hanoi on January 23, takes effect as of October 1, 2007 and expires on September 30, 2010.

Under the contract, 58 hotels, resorts and guest houses will pay an annual fee of 90,000 VND a room.

Rooms subject to the fee include accommodation rooms, restaurants, lobbies, fitness centres and swimming pools. Karaoke rooms, dance halls and retail stores are not required to pay the fee.
