Located in the heart of the ancient town of Hoi An, the Vinh Hung 1 Hotel is a historical Chinese merchant house that was carefully converted into a modern hotel in 1994. The hotel is well-known for its friendly and dedicated staff.
Vinh Hung is the only hotel in Hoi An constructed in the Chinese style. It is furnished with antique furniture and oriental rugs, and offers a view of the city’s historical quarter.

Vinh Hung 1 Hotel is situated in the heart of Hoi An’s Ancient Town, only 100m from the Bridge Pagoda. Its location affords guests quick access to many Hoi An’s most famous sites.

This hotel has two adjoining houses: a 2-floor house in front and a 3-floor house in back. Because of the traditional style, the rooms are a bit dark and stuffy and the stairs are narrow. Nonetheless, the hotel has a comfortable ambience. All rooms are furnished with antiques and have a window looking out on the Ancient Quarter. The hotel comprises 12 Chinese rooms equipped to international standards.
Room types:
First class: 4 rooms in the new house (second floor) with window that offers Old quarter view; 20m2.
Suite: 2 rooms with 2 big windows for Old Quarter view, one with double room and one with triple room, offer bathtub, 30 m2.
Special room: 2 rooms at the front of second floor with special, museum-like decorations. Views from balcony onto Ancient town, bathtub in bathroom; 35 m2.

There is a choice afforded
to travelers coming through Hoi An with a budget of less than $40 per night.
They can either stay at some of the more recently-built properties, located a
few blocks north of the Ancient town and with nice, new amenities (the Vinh
Hung II is a great example of a new annex hotel), or they can stay in a
traditional building in the Ancient Town itself. The Vinh Hung 1 Hotel is the quintessential
historical guesthouse in the heart of Hoi An’s Ancient Town.
Applying broad housing stereotypes,
this place is more East Coast US/Europe than West Coast US/Australia; what it
gives up in comfort it gains in history and style.
The rooms have a dark wood
décor and a completely different feel from most of the hotels in this price
range, with lots of character but also a really small bathroom. The beds seem fairly comfortable and the room
is well-kept. Natural light is sparser
than might be desired. There is also a
very steep stairwell that leads from the ground floor to the second floor.
Overall, this place is not
comfortable so much as it is cool. But
it’s very cool.
